Getting to Know our feathered friends
Australorps
Our Black Australorps are very calm, friendly birds that become attached to their human. Their gentle, docile nature makes them great for families with children. Australorps begin laying around 22 to 24 weeks and will lay approximately 250-300 brown eggs each year. Don't miss out on some amazing birds.
Barnyard Mix
Barnyard mixes come with a variety of colors, personalities, and egg laying habits which makes each hen a one of a kind delight. Barnyard mixes are not a breed as such but are a free spirited conglomeration of different breeds, interbreeding and producing more barnyard mixes. Our Rhode Island Red, French Black Copper Maran, Delaware, Leghorn, Australorps, Easter Eggers, Olive Eggers, Light or Buff Brahma and possibly Buff Orpington genetics. These barnyard mixes tend to be hardier and more disease resistant. The colors of their eggs and number they will lay will be a bit of a mystery but you will become very aware of each since they are easier to tell apart.
Red Sex Links
Red Sex Link chickens are a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Delaware or Light Sussex hens. They are very good layers of large brown eggs sometimes reaching as many as 300+ large to extra large eggs a year. Egg producation may begin as early as 16 weeks of age. Red Sex Links are sexable upon hatch since females will have a reddish tint and males will be mostly white. Red Sex Links may also be know as Golden Comets, Gold Star, and Cinnamon Queen. They really are easy to handle and relatively quiet birds.
Black Sex Links
Black Sex Links are created from a Barred Rock Hen and either a Rhode Island Red, New Hampshire Red or other non barred rooster. The females will be black and the roosters will be barred at hatch. The female will grow to have accents of brown, blue, red or turquoise feathers. They are very active and a bit skittish. They do not tend to become broody but do lay eggs throughout the winter. They are cold and heat tolerant and love to free range.
Easter Egger
Easter Eggers are a cross between an Ameraucana or Auracana and a brown egg layer. They are an excellent egg layer and the color of the egg will be a surprise. They may lay a light blue, green, pink white, tan or occasionally a brown egg but whatever color they lay will be the only color they will ever lay. They will begin laying at 5 to 6 months and lay 200-280 eggs a year. Easter Eggers usually are muffed and bearded and do not breed true. They are assertive, friendly and funny birds that come in a variety of colors and lay eggs in a variety of shades.
Olive Egger
Olive Eggers are a cross between a blue egg layer and a dark egg layer like a Black Copper Maran or a Welsummer. Olive Eggers will lay a green egg ranging from a light blue green or spearmint green egg to a rich dark olive. They usually start laying around 5 to 6 months and will lay about 150-260 colored eggs a year. Olive Eggers are friendly, easy going chickens that make good mothers but don't go broody often. They are hardy in cold or heat and are good foragers but also adapt well to confinement. They take an interest in the people that care for them and tootle around fairly quietly.

Barred Rock
Barred Barred Rocks are dual purpose birds that are known for their hardiness, broodiness and being an easy going chicken. They usually begin to lay around 18-20 weeks and will lay about 200-250 large brown eggs a year. They are really good layers in any weather. Barred Rocks are an older breed and were most likely a part of your grandpa's flock. Barred Rocks remain a popular favorite due to their attractive, low maintenance ways and the way they thrive in or out of the coop. These birds love a hug and are a surprisingly docile pet that tolerates children well.
French Black Copper Marans
The French Black Copper Marans are a quiet, gentle breed that are not fond of cuddling. Marans are calm, friendly and docile and so they get along well with other chickens and people. They are skilled foragers and love free ranging. Marans eggs are visually appealing, even when they are not the super dark color. They are winter hardy and lay about 200 dark reddish brown to chocolate colored eggs a year. The French Black Copper Marans have feathered legs and feet while the Black Copper Marans have clean legs and feet. Both have beautiful black feathers with an iridescent green sheen and copper color around their necks. Black Copper Marans are really stunning birds.
